Our Story

 

I am a proud member of the Malinké and Mossé tribes, and my journey with skincare began long before Sōdai Skin Co. As a child, I was fascinated by the way the women in my family blended traditional ingredients found in our local markets,like shea butter, neem oil, baobab, sesame, rice, millet, and beans,staples in our kitchen, to create nourishing, natural remedies for our skin. These early experiences sparked my lifelong passion for skincare and cosmetics, rooted in the elderly wisdom of botanicals and food-based ingredients.

 

Years ago, when my daughter suffered a fire-related injury at the age of 10, she underwent countless surgeries and chemical treatments. This experience was a wake-up call for me, reigniting my passion for skincare and inspiring me to find a gentler, more natural way to care for her skin. Determined to make a difference, I went deep diving into the science of personal care.

In 2019, this journey led to the creation of Karifee Llc, a name inspired by the French words Karité (shea tree) and Fée (fairy). Karité also holds a deeper meaning in the Bambara (Malinké) language of West Africa, where it symbolizes the “tree of life,”reflecting the nourishing and life-giving properties of our products. Over time, our customers glowing feedback inspired us to rebrand our products under the label Sōdai ; meaning “magnificent” in Japanese,another culture that i am very fond of,displaying the radiant results our products deliver.
