Morphée is named for the Greek god of dreams, and it's made for the hour when the day finally lets go. This luminous Ayurvedic body and massage oil brings together six botanicals from India, Southern Africa, and the woodlands of North America. Each has its own history, and together they create a ritual meant to slow you down and bring you back to yourself.
The Story of the Botanicals
Ashwagandha
For thousands of years, Ashwagandha has held a place of honor in Ayurveda, India's ancient science of living well. Its Sanskrit name is often translated as "smell of the horse," a nod to the earthy, distinctive aroma of its roots. Known as "Indian ginseng," it is one of Ayurveda's most celebrated botanicals, traditionally prized for its grounding character.
Shatavari
Called the "Queen of Herbs" in Ayurvedic tradition, Shatavari is a graceful climbing plant with feathery, fern-like leaves. Its name is commonly translated as "one who has a hundred roots" (or, poetically, "a hundred spouses"), a reference to its abundant, spreading root system. In India it has long been honored as a nurturing plant and a symbol of abundance.
Wild Yam
A twining woodland vine native to the forests of eastern North America, Wild Yam grows from a knotted, tuberous root that herbalists have long gathered. Its old folk names, such as "colic root," show how deeply it was woven into traditional home herbalism. Today it brings a sense of earthy, rooted comfort to the blend.
Black Cohosh
In shaded North American woodlands, Black Cohosh sends up tall, slender spires of creamy white flowers, sometimes called "fairy candles" because they seem to glow in the forest half-light. Known to Indigenous peoples and early settlers alike, this dark-rooted plant has been a staple of traditional herbal gardens for generations.
Cape Chamomile
Despite its name, Cape Chamomile is not a true chamomile. It is a wild shrub from the Western Cape of South Africa, sometimes called "Cape snow bush" for the soft, woolly white blooms that dust its branches. Its delicate foliage gives off a warm, herbaceous, softly sweet aroma that adds a comforting, enveloping quality to the oil.
Davana
Native to southern India, Davana is a fragrant, silvery-leaved herb woven into garlands and temple offerings for centuries. It is one of perfumery's most treasured natural aromatics, with a sweet, fruity, honeyed-herbal scent that is said to develop uniquely on each person's skin, so your Morphée is a little bit your own.
